Excursion “The 7 Wonders of Lviv”

Length of the excursion 2 hours, excursion begins at Svobody Avenue (Opera House)

Opera House (Theatre of Opera and Ballet)

The luxurious building of one of the most beautiful opera houses is the ‘pearl’ of the city center. The Solomiya Krushelnytska Lviv State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet is impressive from the outside and luxurious inside. It was compared to the Paris Opera and the Vienna Opera House. You would like to remember it. Columns, sculptures, balustrades, statues of muses, and high reliefs — this is the way the Lviv Opera looks from the outside. The interior of the Lviv Opera will astonish you — gilding, colored marble, and decorative paintings. You will see that we are not exaggerating.

Lviv National University, named after Ivan Franko

One of the oldest European universities, founded by order of King John II Casimir in 1661. Currently, it is the most prestigious university in Ukraine that is a dream place for many young people from all over the country. Looking through the window of the sightseeing Wonder Train, you can see the unusual architectural beauty of the main building and hear a wonderful story about the University’s hard luck erection and evolution.

House of Scientists

The first thing that catches your attention is the unique design of the lobby’s staircase. It makes the interior look more elegant and even the aristocratic. Every single interior element is worth your attention. You will feel like a noble lady or gentleman here because these walls are indicative of nobles, earls, and aristocrats. Currently, the House of Scientists is a place where movies are filmed, wedding photography sessions are held, and real magnificent balls are organized.

Potocki Palace

This majestic building was attributed to French architect Louis d'Overnu. The palace was designed to the order of Count Alfred Josef Potocki, the Viceroy of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, and the job was done perfectly. It is one of the largest palaces in Lviv. Due to location in Lviv’s historic center, it seems even more authentic. The glory among the narrow streets full of various pieces of architecture.

Chapel of Boim family

Chapel of Boim family — one of the best sacred monuments of the late Renaissance in Lviv. The building was erected over 400 years ago, but even today the human images on the facades and walls seem modern and alive, and the sculpture of a pensive Jesus Christ on the dome is shrouded in legend and adds to the mystery of the temple. The interior of the chapel is compositionally and stylistically connected with its appearance.  Due to the skill of the architects, the inside of the chapel looks much bigger and taller than the outside.  The altar wall creates an atmosphere of exaltation. The Boim's chapel strikingly combines local timber traditions with the techniques and decor of the stone Renaissance building.

Museum of Furniture and Porcelain

Museum of Furniture and Porcelain The Specialized Museum of Decorative and Applied Art is the only museum of furniture in Ukraine.  The museum has about 680 pieces of furniture and a considerable collection of porcelain, earthenware, majolica and art glass, consisting of more than 11 thousand exhibits, various in styles, time, and place of production, material, and methods of decoration.  The works of masters from Ukraine, Western Europe and the Far East are presented here, which impress with their beauty and skill of execution.

Bernardine Church and Monastery

The Bernardine Church and Monastery is a complex of iconic buildings around which there are many legends. The monastery is not functioning now, but its decoration remains — the church of Andrew the First-Called, built as a basilica in the 17th century. Today it is a valid Greek Catholic Church that impresses everyone with its rich interior, ancient paintings and icons. The Italian Basilica (with German admixtures) was built from the 1600s to the 1630s on the site of its wooden predecessor from the 15th century. The first liturgy took place in 1611 – December 13, the day of St. Andrew. As a result, the temple was named.
